Outfits like Commix come once in a lifetime, so anytime we can peer into what they’re working on when they aren’t creating their varying masterpieces, like their seminal debut album Call To Mind. Seemingly birthed by their appearance on Radio 1 with Fabio (where they ran through a bunch of unreleased bits), the demand for their locked-down tracks from the five year span of 2003-2008 must have been deafening. So, here you go. 12 awe-inspiring slices of vibrant Drum & Bass from years gone by, from some of the scene’s brightest. The Commix boys had this to say about the project:

“When we wrote ‘Call To Mind’ we really wanted to make sure every tune on the album worked as part of the whole. We wrote loads of tracks and some of them just wouldn’t have worked on the album. Tracks like ‘Golden’ came close to being on there, but we worked really hard to make sure everything on ‘Call To Mind’ fitted together perfectly.

‘Dusted’ is a collection of music that we made at that time, all of which didn’t appear on the finished product. We get asked so often about all of these and now that we’re working on a new album we thought it was time to let these ones go. This is the end of an era for Commix and our next album will be the start of a brand new one for CMX.”

Dusted (Selected Works 2003-2008) ([METHCD015]) is due out March 5th on Metalheadz.

The Original Jungle don’s of Birmingham EUPHORIA est1994 return home after 16 years to stage there biggest ever Jungle party in Birmingham.

BIRMINGHAM is alive with chat about this historic event and we aim to please by bringing the original vibes back home to Digbeth.

2 Raves in 1 building with an out-door smoking garden. The Rainbow Warehouse is the coolest underground venue in Birmingham and has a real illegal rave feel to it….. perfect for what were planning. The 2nd arena is built under a huge bridge arch and feels just like the oldskool “under the motorway” partys that were happening back in the early 90′s.

Euphoria were ahead of the game in the midlands bringing you not only the finest Local talent, DJ SS, Ratty & Tango, and many more superb artists, we were also the first to bring the legendary Roni Size, and other greats like LTJ Bukem, with collaborations with Kool FM bringing the rawest Jungle fresh from the London heavyweights. These nights went off.
We took the main man Bass-man down to Bristol, WOW, that was something, 800 + heads all rocking to the 10 commandments….

We were ravers, we loved the scene, nothings changed….

Ink & Loxy Present Horsementality

The original Horsemen concept was initially conceived by 4 minds coming together through one unifying vision. Those minds were of: Ink, Loxy, Keaton and Dylan. Carving out their own unique take on Drum & Bass. Fusing together specific elements that would form the fundamental cornerstones of the Horsemen sound: raw original sampled breaks, heavy sub bass and dub elements. This style and concept has since seeped into the consciousness of a new wave of producers across the globe and has influenced and evolved into the sonics presented here on this album. Ink and Loxy in conjunction with Renegade Hardware are proud to present: Horsementality…

For this project the boundaries were pushed and the horizons broadened. Compromising 30 tracks and over 30 artists this album showcases the continuation of the Horsemen Mentality, featuring established and new artists in equal measure. Toolroom Records has asked a true selector in Jaguar Skills to sort out their Toolroom Knights compilation, and trust us, he prepared a banger! He’s known for his weekly mixes on Trevor Nelson’s show, as well as regularly sorting out BBC Radio 1′s “In New DJs We Trust”, and personally, the DOA News Desk loves when he goes on one, and sorts out Christmas mixes and such. Jag has also been known as something of a fixture at their Toolroom Knights parties, so it just makes sense for him to bring his skills (pun intended) for this compilation, showcasing how easily he can jump from Hip-Hop to dubstep, from House to DnB, and all points in between. Not only does he drop two exclusives from his studio (alongside DJ@War), we’ve got some bangin’ originals and remixes featuring producers like Dillinja, Friction, Die & Interface, Fatboy Slim, Pendulum, TC, Adam F with Redman, Run DMT, Nuyorican Soul and plenty more. You’d think it’d sound like a trainwreck, but Jaguar Skills is a pure ninja, and sliced, diced and realigned these tracks with precision. Perfect soundtrack for a raucous summer!

Ink – Last Scroll LP

Ink is an enigma within the Drum & Bass scene. 20 years within the game, his name is on the shortlist of producers who have been representative of the Renegade Hardware sound throughout its inception. He’s not only a well-established producer and DJ, but he’s also had his hand at putting together albums on the A&R-side, as well as running his own imprints. Over the last few years, we’ve seen him help bring forth a number of talented producers, as well as evolve his own production style to really bring some intriguing tracks to the DnB scene as a whole. For all of his worth, it’s telling that Hardware has given Ink the honor of producing the first artist album that Hardware’s ever released! The Last Scroll is one of those projects that could not have been rushed – it’s the culmination of a life spent experiencing, and drawing from those experiences creatively. Featured producers include Perpetuum (whom we’d argue has helped pull out some of Ink’s finest work, as their Hard Soul LP showed us), BTK, FRISKe, Genotype, J Dub and others, including the one like Loxy (really, what would an Ink album on Hardware be without a feature from Loxy?)…
